The well is a perfectly round hold in the ground believed to have occurred naturally. To get an idea of its size, note the person in red at the the right edge of the picture.

Archeologists have found skeletons in the mud at the bottom of this well. It is believed that the Maya sacrificed children and athletes as well as prisoners of war to fertilize the land.
